Speaking as a teenager, I think that, even though they do encourage us to work harder, rewards for academic achievement are not the best way to go about getting your child to apply him/herself to schoolwork. If you tell a child that if he gets a certain grade he will get something from you, and the child simply does not achieve the grade, although they tried their best, they will see it as a failure, and will probably think that you see them as a failure as well.

Certainly, rewards for good behaviour etc., especially if your child could be better behaved, would work, but I do not believe that rewards for academic achievement are beneficial to a child.

as independant party i declare that kids and parents are equally stupid.

just give the kid GW because you love him/her and you want to surprise him/her, and he/she will do more than his/her best to make you proud, because he/she feels appreciated..

if not, you've got a spoiled brat that should get some correctional whipping.

(dont take the whipping seriously. i dont want any child abuse cases on my arse.)

frankly, i couldn't have wished for better parents and grandparents.
i didn't get spanked, i only got the occasional slap in the face when i did something horribly bad.

I still get more than enough love from my parents, my grandparents passed away last year so i get a bit less than usual.

i just think parents shouldn't make deals with their kids.
They're KIDS for gods sake, if they know they're in a position to make deals with you, they'll get a terrible attitude..

just my five cents tho.

(and btw, thanks for the harsh comment, say that in my face and you have a real problem on your hands.)

Nowadays taking away the console, pc and especially the telephone and/or pager and you don't need to whip them anymore. That KILLS them worse than a whipping. I remember my son saying to me, give me a whipping beat me silly but PAHLEZZZE don't take away my telephone. haha I took it muahahahaha. His grades came up too.

YES! I totally agree. Taking the Power cord (sometimes the video card right out of the slot) is a wonderful way to disapline your children. HeHe!

Behave.
Clean your room.
Eat your veggies.
Do your homework.
Make good grades.
Stop making your sister angry.
Feed and walk the dog.
That's a start.

Take your lunch money for school, skip lunch, and save up until you have 30 bucks or whatever. One of my friends told me how he did it in high school, and he would simply wait until after school when he went home and ate there.

Damn you kids are lucky, you ask your parents to buy you games. THEY ask me to give them money -.-. Anyway, all i can say is borrow money from someone, or if you have a really good dog bread. He/She shall get pimped, for good bread, and ask money for it. Or sell your most expensive shoes. No need to keep em anyway 'coz u'll be spending too much time playing GW ch. 2.

I agree, i sit around and play GW all day, except for school. I still have to go to school, but only for another couple weeks and im out!
what i do is save my lunch money, all of it. I mean there is never really anything i want to eat anyway, its all nasty.

i'll have enough to buy GW Ch.2 Collectors eddition when it comes out easy. and some Mt. Dew to go with it

If I want something I work for it and save my money

ive done this with many of my games:
Neverwinter nights and exp packs to them
Diablo,Diablo II,Diablo II LOD.
Guild Wars
Age of empires,Age of Empires II and exp pack.

Didnt take long few weeks for me to earn the cash

you can do the same or get a job and bring home 100 plus bucks a week that can buy you a few games

If I really wanna buy guild wars 2 ive saved more then nuff cash alrdy:
$70.00 in my pocket atm

Don't you people save your money?

Seriously, you may still be a "kid", hell, I'm only 17, but haven't you thought about maybe saving money for when you want to buy these kinds of things?

The following will be tips for saving your money for an underage person.

-Maybe once or twice a month go out and earn some money.
-Save some of it.
-Save spare change in a jar in your room. (This works well in the long run).
-Make sure you always have some money set aside somewhere.
-Keep high bills, you won't want to buy a soda with a 20 dollar bill* that you have in your room.
-If you are going with your friends to an R rated movie and you aren't old enough yet, have your mom/dad come along and they will likely pay for you too.
-Don't put all of your money in your wallet. People are tempted to spend money in their wallet. Instead, spread it around your room, or put it in places where you'd have to work to get to it.
-Trade Pokemon/Yugioh/Magic cards**.
-Think before you buy everything. Ask yourself, "How long will this last me?" If it's food, you don't want it. Why spend too much money on something that will only satisfy you for an hour?
-Don't buy food unless you have a surplus of money and can't think of anything you need to buy in the near future.

*Better yet, keep a $50!
**You have to rip people off for this to work.

Thats my quick guide to saving enough money to buy whatever you really want to buy.

The best thing to do though is just work a little every once in awhile. Do random work like helping out at a neighbor's house. It will probably only be for like a day, and depending on your neighbors, and how much your minimum wage is, you'll get a fair bit of money in that amount of time.

If you live in a big city, that is another way to save money. Only bring money with you when you know you are going out to buy something. Actually, that works in all situations. Don't carry around more than say $15 (Enough to top off your gas tank, buy some cheap food if you get lost, cab to a familiar place etc.) and you'll never have enough money to spend it on those expensive things in life.

Of course everything on here is ruined if you have a credit card or a checkbook. In that case, I hate your parents.

I'm set.

Seems I'm the only one that's learned that when, a high rolling tech company like AMD, Intel, ATI, Nvidia...come out with new groundbreaking hardware...the stock spikes.

Buy it when its announced, sell it when the earnings come in.

I started with 3DFX, then the TNT card, then the Pentium III, then the Athlon, then 9700 series, then the Athlon 64, then the 6800's, so on and so forth... ATI's HDTV chips did it this time I think, even though I was betting on the Xbox.

Then again I have the wifes trust fund to play with
